Picks for Chicks: PEP Up Your Portfolio

November 10, 2010 – Comments (4) | RELATED TICKERS: PEP , KO

Dayana Yochim (AKA TMF School) and I have done our latest installment of Stock Picks for Chicks for It's a bit of an upset, really, because we're gushing about Pepsi (an upset because I, personally, am such a Diet Coke addict that some people joke I consume it intravenously; Dayana's a Diet Pepsi fan. This is one area where our tastes differ greatly). Coke's a solid stock, of course, but Pepsi struck as us more exciting for investors.

PEP has Tropicana. My favorite Tropicana product is the Pomegranate/Blueberry juice because my husband loves it. When we got married he was somewhat anti-fruit and vegetables, but that is changing because he is alway trying my foods out. Perhaps I should buy some stock in self defense!

Decade-long Mountain Dew addict here.  When I first started investing back in 2008, one of my coworkers jokingly said to me, "You should buy Mountain Dew stock."

So I did.  After taking a good look at the company, I realized this was one to keep.  So I will.

In a taste test done by an almost neutral party (Royal Crown), I surprised myself by being able to pick out each one quite easily. In picking a favorite, though, I was torn:

RC tasted the most interesting... almost nutty. Good for a change.

Pepsi tasted the sweetest. Very desirable for a small quantity. But Pepsi hurts my stomach if I drink much before a meal (like while waiting for it).

Coke was just perfect. The way it oughtta be.

My wife and I are also invested a little in KO. PEP looks good, too, but we're Coke people, even as we try to cut down on corn syrup and caffeine (and don't do diet).

That Tropicana product sounds great! I'll have to try that one out! I am guilty of not eating as much fruit and vegetables as I should, so that's a good tip! "Self defense," ha! It is good that Pepsi is aware of the trend for healthier eating and they're trying to ramp up that stuff.

Mountain Dew -- that's the hard stuff! Ha! How awesome you found a keeper in Pepsi!

Wow, a blind taste test, that's interesting... and yeah as I admitted in the video, I do love my Diet Coke. ;) But yeah as a stock I just prefer Pepsi, it just looks a lot more exciting to me, although I certainly wouldn't say Coke's a stinker or anything, ha.
