I have been looking to upgrade my computer system. I found an outstanding forum with pictures of the personnel trading stations. I tried to bring over some images, but this blog limits the word counts.

Take a look here:

Some traders are using single Laptop, some have with 54+ monitors and 21 computers. The forum is pretty interesting to see the hundreds of varied platform set ups.

If you have Mac you can use Spaces to view mutliple windows simultaneously on one screen  apparently I've heard. This guy apparently does it

perosnally i still slug it out on the ole laptop cause I'm a cheap S.O.B. but I'll probably go two or three screen at some point because it would be fun. :-)

A second monitor will improve anyone's productivity. Few people benefit from more monitors.

I normally run about 20 to 30 different programs / windows at once on my four screens and about 15 tabs in three browser Windows (Firefox and Chrome). Most of my screen estate is taken up by my brokers' trading platforms, Interactive Brokers TWS and Goldman's Rediplus. I hang out in two trading chat rooms, have multiple stock charts up, etc.

You actually don't need an uber processor for all this and don't need awesome graphics cards; I have two ATI Radeon 3850s and an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400. I built the computer myself. Ram does help; I have Vista 64-bit and 8 GB of RAM. 4GB is enough, but I am paranoid and RAM is cheap.

I'm in the warren buffet camp.  Except for the fact that I do have a computer, but being 5 years old with a first generation LCD flat pannel, it's like an old typewriter.

If only we could read 16 screens at once...
