Possibly the Dumbest Stock Commentary You'll Ever Read...

December 03, 2008 – Comments (9)

... this week, at least.

Amazing. And from an "editor"

How can Sears be worth more than $30 a share? Target closed Monday at only $29.54, and JC Penney closed at $16.55. At the other end of the retail spectrum, investors are only about $6 for Macy's, and at the low end, Family Dollar Stores closed Monday at $26. Wal-Mart is one of the few higher-valued competitors, with its shares above $50.

So I have to ask: Who thinks Sears is better than Target or even JC Penney for that matter?

The outrageous spread between Sears' share price and better-positioned retailers may be due for a correction...

The article is 90% ticker-wh0ring, as I call it, trying to get clicks from news feeds. That's part of the biz, but usually, even ticker-sk4nk articles have something to say. This one? The idea that a share's value can be directly measured by comparing it to prices paid for other shares, I mean, the lowliest intern I can imagine wouldn't make that error. I don't know if my Golden Retriever would make that mistake.

I'm impressed.

When I read the title I thought "My, that's a hotly contested award". But then I read the snippet. I think that one wins.

We should sell the write a gallon of compass bearing grease.

I'm short TGT, WMT, and FDO. They all cost too much.

I'm short BRK-A! Buffett is great, but come on! $100,000 is way too much for any stock! I could buy 400 shares of GOOG for the same price!

Funny reasoning, I've only ever heard justification for sears prices based on real estate holdings. Which we all know will only increase in value.

I know my parents think stock prices can be compared this way, even though I tell them otherwise.
