I buy TIPS with my 401k, but the government always fudges the inflation numbers so I never expect to outperform with it.

I'll see if we have mutual fund that has shares of some of your S&P picks.

Personally, I would never consider buying TIPS.  For those worried about high inflation, I'd consider the default risk of TIPS in a high-inflation/hyper-inflation situation...I'd bet that the US gov't will default on TIPS.  The fact that they even need to sell TIPS, and that the overall market for Treasuries is shrinking while TIPS issues are increasing sharply, worries me...
