we asked you to quit with the “All Glory to the Hypnotoad” blog posts, because our members are getting annoyed. Maybe you didn’t read the mail. I’ll release you, with the understanding that you will cease the blog posts and pitches containing only those one-liners.

Thanks,

The Motley Fool discussion boards administrator does. Was that not clear? This Web site is the property of The Motley Fool, and they have every right to decide how to run, monitor, maintain and, yes, censor it as they see fit.

I may not like censorship, but I will defend a company's right to run themselves in their own best interest without some activist outside influence saying "you have to let us all have equal say".

Hypnotoad can freely go out on the street, into a park, start his own site, or buy time on other media if he really, really needs to say "All glory...".

No, it's not clear.  These posts have been part of the CAPS blogs for years.  Why must the blogger stop posting now?

MF is caving to a bunch of cry baby pussies whose biggest problem in life is having to deal with a stupid blog post.

My beef isn't with MF for making these decisions for the perceived betterment of their site.  My beef lies with the whiney, "I gotta have it my way", "you're bothering me and my rights are more important than yours", weiners who are destroying our country.

I may not like censorship, but I will defend a company's right to run themselves in their own best interest without some activist outside influence saying "you have to let us all have equal say".

So........what's the difference between an outside activist influencing the site by saying "you have to let us all have equal say"., and the outside influence of whiney pussies that led to this decision?

I really think the bigger problem is the blog system's structure.  An "ignore" feature would allow those who are annoyed by the posts to not have to deal with them.  Better organization of the blogs would make concerns over pushing more important content off the main page irrelevant.

Personally, I found HypnoToad THE most annoying character here, simply because his pitches and blogs contributed nothing.

I don't want him deleted or banned, however.  I simply ignored his crap.  If TMF adds an ignore feature, he'd be the first (and possibly only) person I'd choose to ignore.

Exactly, and that's what makes so many of us feel better. There's no good reason for the HypnoToad (who I say is just a Tom Gardner alias... Get out your tinfoil...) to post, and let's get real, it's maybe one post a day. Look at the record.

This is performance art and satire of a very high order, a simultaneous celebration of absurdity that embraces and up-ends n the very nature of the entity it mocks. It co-opts the "look at me! I have something interesting to say!" appeal of blogging by providing something that isn't interesting except the way it doesn't ever stop.

With eyes glazed, 99.9% of the posts in Caps have little more wisdom to offer than "all glory to the hypnotoad," and certainly a lot less foolishness. I have long since tuned out the endless parade of ranting gold bugs, doomsayers, and the Knights who say "Socialist."

These posts are, in the aggregate, equally repetitive, and much more annoying to many of us.  Take the really long view of history, they'll all be equally worthless when we're dead and buried.

In the mean time, The Hypnotoad makes many of us happy every day with its dogged refusal to stay absurd. If you don't like it, you don't have to click the links.

Part of the appeal of TMF was that it did not take itself TOO seriously.  I suppose TMF is simply maturing and becoming part of the financial establishment ( i.e. credit cards, mutual funds, etc.).

Louis Rukeyser used wink at his viewers at the end of his weekly shows, as if to say, "Take all our sage advice with a grain of salt" (due dilligence?).  Yes, personal finance is serious business with life-altering implications, but a small dose of foolishness on occasion makes the ups and downs of the market, and life, more bearable.

Unfortunately my religion forbids me from giving glory to toads.  For it is written:  "Thou shalt not glorify the toad, nor shall ye bow down to him."

THE FOOL, who is currently paying .10% for EVERY post wants to ban a 93 rated YES MAN player, in the middle of a post drive, for posting.

The reason alstry isn't banned is because his post has to do with finance, but since he has on opinion and wants us to hear it he is threatened with banishment.

Then HypnoToad draws attention to the fact that he makes good picks, but doesn't risk his opinion, because an opinion could get you banned, and is threatened with banishment.

I say this every day, it's bad form to post twice before your first post has left the frontpage.
I also like the idea of having more 'todays top post'. Maybe 10 would help.
But both of those things could be made part of this website, and applied to all. SOlUTION PROPLE.

It would be foolish to ban Hypnotoad.

Perhaps a thumbs up/thumbs down type of rating like YouTube has, although I'm more interested in having the "ignore" feature and simply ignoring the ones I choose to ignore.

As a libertarian, the censorship of TheHypnoToad, as with anyone else's censorship, presents a dilemma. While I hate censorship, of course The Motley Fool has the right to do what they want with their property. Then again, just because someone has the right to do something doesn't mean I can't urge them not to do it. It is their right, yet it isn't right.

It isn't right to censor, and we have every right, and indeed the duty, to urge those providing fora to allow all voices, all opinions. Arguing that TMF has the right to proper within their property is not an argument against those of us protesting the censorship. In fact, it is the very reason we are protesting: they have the right to do what they want with their property, and we want to encourage them to do what is right: not to censor.

This is equally true of DownWithInfidels, Daretoth, Abitare, and everybody else. In my case, I like all of their blogs, and am saddened when they're removed. In THT's case, I am standing up for him even though I don't care for his blogs at all. It is purely a desire for TMF to voluntarily use their property to be a haven for free speech, as I always hope they will be - as probably all of us frequent contributors want them to be.

(Btw, I pasted this from Google Docs, and I can't get the font sizes right - there should be a good way of regulating the font size of your comments/blogs.)

Tony....I was actually serious.  I think the current rec system doesn't really reflect the quality of the post...

Adding a negative rec feature (or a thumbs down feature) for both posts and comments would help people filter out the "less than useful" posts. I don't know how to phrase exactly what I'm trying to say.  But imagine how many recs Alstry would actually have if there was a thumbs down feature.  He probably wouldn't have the mosts recs...

I would venture to say he'd likely be in negative territory.

The difference between alstry and hypnotoad is that alstry actually contributes something that is pertinent to the subject matter that the motley fool ascribes to.  Whether you agree or disagree with what alstry has to say is irrelevant; at least he is actually saying SOMETHING.

When did TMF become Nazi Germany?

Let him say what he wants... maybe TMF could add an "ignore" feature for people who dont want to read his posts.

Let people choose who they want to censor themselves instead of choosing for us.
