RS Weekly Update - Back from the Show
Well I made it back from the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and I gotta say I had a lot of fun. Not only did I get to see cars, cars and more cars, but I got to do something even cooler. I got to meet and have dinner with two Detroit Fools! In all honesty the trip could have ended there and I would have been gold, so Rob (TMFBreakerRob) and Doug (killtheump), a big Foolish thanks to you both for showing me around and offering some really valuable insight on the industry.
One big takeaway from the trip for me is that the Detroit Big Three of Ford, GM and Chrysler have got their work cut out for them. I’m not saying that they aren’t going to be able to succeed. But there are a lot of companies out there jockeying for position in a fast-changing automobile market. And as alternative energy vehicles continue to take hold, the environment is only going to get more competitive. That said, I walked away from the show really impressed by what Ford is doing.
All in all, it was an extremely enjoyable trip and one that I hope I get to do again. I feel like it would be even better the second time around with a little local knowledge. Until then, check out some of the links below to some of the videos I shot from the show.
