Well, I am trying to get better at this and recently, I got it real wrong and this isn't the first time....probably not the last either.

After spending years reading about the markets and doing fairly well as a whole, I still look back on my mistakes. The first stock I ever bought was HMX because I liked their clothes. I sold it for a lo...

Tale of the Inefficient Market: Japan and Netflix

As the country of Japan begins to sort through the mess and start to pick up the pieces, Netflix keeps storming ahead. This is a tale of the inefficent Market. Ok ok....I went short the EWJ. This is the case because I think the country will have a heck of a time the next few months and years, but this Japan. This is/was the 3rd largest economy that recovered from WWII. This is not about the country, it is about the people and their culture. It i...

GM Bonuses and PUJOLS

Today is going to be somewhat of a rant.

GM is giving Bonuses to their employees. That's great. Who doesn't love a good bonus and it is nice to see it going to all levels. However, as a tax-payer (we basically all are) who bailed GM out and DID NOT get repaid in FULL. This is nuts. This is a transfer payment from the tax payers to GM. Remember Ford didn't get tax payer money and they aren't paying bonuse...

No where to hid.......

The Dow is inching closer to 12,000 and there seems to be some hope in the United States. In the short term, it seems that things have stabilized for the time being. However, the longer term has some major issues that will have to be fixed. If entitlements like healthcare and social security are not fixed, the country will be broke. These entitlements will need to be cut for baby boomers and boomers should be open to these. They have lived throu...

GOOGLE and Capital Allocation (Plus a major "day trading mistake")

The Google purchase of Groupon seems to be quite head scratching. $6billion dollars for a company that was offer $2Billion by a desperate Yahoo!. First glance the numbers don't really work out. $6 Billion dollars for a company that does $500million-$1Billion in REVENUE per year. This means Google is paying a very pretty penny for a company that (quite frankly) can be copied and destroyed by a big bad Google.

&...

GM: Cost , Job Creation and Doctor Evil.

I usually don't get politically. You know, long time listener, first time caller, but today's GM IPO really has me going. At the pace they are selling, they will lose 20 BILLION DOLLARS. That means that each US Citizen is on the hook for $65 bucks (US POP 307 Mill). May not seem like a lot, but would you take 65 greenbacks and light them on fire. Didn't think so. Anyway, GM has around 200,000 jobs with hardworking people employed at this once gl...

Oil and NFLX to 100

Coming into the Winter months, I am sticking with my Oil bet. Think the economy will still steady and Oil will rise slightly and top off around 100. I will then sell all my Oil plays in the mid 90's to 100. Until green technology is better, we will continue to see oil in the 40-100 trading range based on the time of year and economy. In addition, it is nice to own a "hard asset."

Neflix i...

Oil

Recently, I went very long into Oil over the next 3-4 months. Think the summer weather, perception of a healing world economy, and strong fundamentals will push the price back to 100-barrel. Looking for 20-30% return. However, went long and short on several etfs and looking to pump my score up by about 200-300 points and then sell. In addition, think Ford will see some setbacks with higher gas and a huge debt load, but they are still a great company and will sell Ford as soon a...
