RUBBER.....hit the road!!!!!

Call it a condom conundrum.

At a time when the federal government is spending billions of stimulus dollars to stem the tide of U.S. layoffs, should that same government put even more Americans out of work by buying cheaper foreign products?

In this case, Chinese condoms.

That's the dilemma for the folks at the U.S. Agency for International Development, which has distributed an estimated 10 billion U.S.-made AIDS-preventing condoms in poor countries around the world.

But not anymore.

In a move expected to cost 300 American jobs, the government is switching to cheaper off-shore condoms, including some made in China.

The switch comes despite implied assurances over the years that the agency would continue to buy American whenever possible.

"Of course, we considered how many U.S. jobs would be affected by this move,” said a USAID official who spoke on the condition that he would not be named. But he said the reasons for the change included lower prices (2 cents versus more than 5 cents for U.S.-made condoms) and the fact that Congress dropped “buy American language” in a recent appropriations bill.

I guess now the US is saying FU to American workers.....we can't afford you anymore............hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??????  If the US can't afford many Americans will be able to afford to pay taxes????

How are we going to monitor quality control????  Any volunteers????

Great post!

And where can I buy a condom made anywhere for 5 cents? They cost somewhat more than than at Walgreens. Maybe I should buy some WAG? Judging by the number of used condoms at the bottom of our road they must be making some money at those kind of margins...

The great thing is that the U.S. ordered some condoms from China as a diplomatic maneuver.  In a show of American braggadocio, the condoms were carefully specified: they were to be 8 inches around and 13 inches long.

The Chinese fulfilled the order, and stamped on every case in large black letters:  SIZE:  MEDIUM

Those condoms are wasted anyway. In most underdeveloped countries, they think it's chewing gum.

Ha Ha In my crazy alternative word. Lets have a little fun here.  We all know how well the Chinese control the end product. Melamine in pet food and milk.  Hummmmmmmmm...... Oh I know, Something in the condom that kills both people. UN population control so UN is happy and if it is found out we can blame it on China.
