I was just looking at some retirement calculators and playing with http://money.cnn.com/calculator/retirement/retirement-need/.
No where does it ask you what you think you will need to live on and as the income you put in goes up, so does the "what you will need." The north has been very good to me and I've gotten a generous raise every year that I have been here to the point that feel extremely blessed. But to expect that I would need an income in retirement based on what I make here is crazy. And if you bump the saving percent up what you need does not go down. Clearly, if you are able to save a significant percent of you income, you don't need it. And then, the calculator only allowed for up to 25% savings. I'd put it in at 40% if it would have let me.
