It is not the end of the world.....simply most of America getting outsourced and much of the world as we know it shutting down.

NYC transit board cuts subway line, bus routes

New York City's transit board has voted to approve cuts that will eliminate one subway line and dozens of bus routes. Metropolitan Transit Authority chairman Jay Walder says the cuts were tough but necessary. Members of the public spoke out against them.

Mayor Bloomberg NY Warns of Mass. Job Cuts if State Imposes Cuts - 8,000+ Teachers 

Watching the ticker is like going to the small town fireworks display before learning that the company plant that employs much of the town is shutting down.......and we are bailing out those shutting the plant down??????

Unfortunately, the teacher cut will probably be necessary.  However, they shouldn't cut MTA services; they should simply implement tolls in order to fund the services.  Automobile travel is oversubsidized as is, so it makes sense.

Ten others whom the department charged with incompetence settled their cases by resigning or retiring.

It's not as though the city hasn't tried.

The city’s effort includes eight full-time lawyers, known as the Teacher Performance Unit, and eight retired principals and administrators who serve as part-time consultants to help principals build cases against teachers. Joel I. Klein, the schools chancellor, said that the team, whose annual budget is $1 million, had been “successful at a far too modest level.”
