Still Amazed At River

May 08, 2008 – Comments (6)

I am still amazed at this river.  What was it, 5 days ago that it was completely clogged with ice?  There was so much ice I was wondering how many weeks it would take to clear, yet it cleared the very next day.  There is no sense that there is a river there at all from my first picture.

Ft Laird

And today about 15 ft of ice is gone, and it broke to be carried away again within a day or two of arriving.  The icebergs that had been thrown by the trail have slide back down towards the river, so the ice front has moved back towards the river at least 10 ft, and it is considerably lower now.  Ten days ago that river was just not there.  It looked like ice on top of mud and it was soooo much lower.  I am still wondering where all the water is coming from.

I don't think so EScroogeJr...  I don't think I capture how amazing the river was.
