Stocks or Bonds for High Yield

July 01, 2013 – Comments (1) | RELATED TICKERS: TAL.DL

I took a stab at answering Valyooo's 'Stocks vs high yield bonds' from a few weeks ago.  I can't say I definitively answered it, but I hope the examples help define the trade space a bit.

Two screens, one for junk bonds at and one for high-yielding dividend stocks with the Fool's screener.  Review a few of the risks, add some short summaries and - voila - a Fool article.

I added a green thumb on one of the stocks profiled; not sure how long it takes to get ride of the bomb charm.  TAL has a pretty simple business model.  Lease shipping containers.  The company pays a juicy dividend and should be able to grow or at least maintain business if this stumbling, global economy manages to generate more international trade.  I don't own any, but it's worth watching.

Fool on!  Russ

I am still in the yield camp.  I hoped the market would correct 5-7% and it has, so I expect a sideways market until earnings catch up. The yield play is still there since there is really no alternative.  MLPs, BDCs, REITs still work.  Tech and Bio works too for capital appreciation.
