Always nice to see people using their company email to defend their firms' product, and insult the critics.

Got this in my email tonight, in response to this article.

I don't want to get Jeff in too much trouble, after all, I wasn't exactly kind to his employer's product.

But I think it's interesting that his reaction isn't to say "hey, does your computer have enough juice to run your current aps?" but instead is to assume that I don't and that I -- the consumer -- am therefore at fault for the lousy performance of his company's product.

Michael D.? You might want to work on this kind of attitude, too. The customer isn't always right, but this customer builds his own machines, and knows what's up with PCs, and his experience with your run-of-the-mill cube-jockey special is bad enough that he'd never touch any of your other products.

And for the record, my work Dell -- the one that appears to be several hamsters short on power -- runs on half a gig of Ram.

What about your anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall software?  Running these in real-time, which I recommend, will slow the computer down.  Try disabling real-time temporarily to see if it makes a difference.  Are you connected to wireless?  Are there other wireless APs nearby?  Might want to try changing channels or adjusting your power up.

I headed over here to reply to the original Quick Take on Dell just to give the opposite take that the Dell machine I use is near and dear to my heart (though usually I'm right there with ya Seth). My old Gateways, HPs, and IBMs, well, that's another story (though I'm sure I could find differing opinions on those). The runner up to my Dell? An old Sager Laptop that I busted trying to do an upgrade. That was a sad day.

That point aside, the email from "Jeff" is priceless.

Update. I've since traded some very pleasant emails with Jeff, and he's told me a bit about what he does there, and how he's hoping to bring customers back to Dell.

All in all, a gentleman, and if Dell has more like him, it should have a good chance of bringing back the passion, the growth, and maybe even me...
