Stupid cheap

My wedding is this week, so I don't have enough time to look at all the stupid cheap stocks that are taking giant haircuts.  MGM took a 3% haircut on the best quarter it's had in years.  There is a definite flight to safety effect: KO went up today.

What do you like?   I have an eye on WM, mentioned recently in a Fool article.  Dividend approaching 5% at these prices, and vertical integration so they get a vig on their competitor's business by charging them for landfill space.

I am asking the same question.  JNJ had attracted my eye - and the fact that the ex-dividend date is coming up doesn't hurt.

Congrats and best of luck in your wedding and all the wonderful years that will come after!!

I think the concern with WM is that it gets a good chunk of change from municipalities and people are shying away from those companies in light of being on austerity mode.  Otherwise it is a well run company.

JNJ is a great '"defensive" stock but there are other places with better yields for me.

GL to both on your choices.

My 2 favorite stocks right now are GE and ABT. Both are trading at huge discounts and have wide moats. The future uncerntanty about these 2 companies is also very low. I will wait a little longer to see if I can buy these great businesses at even greater discounts.

If you're looking for stupid cheap, elope. Congratulations and good luck. Oh yeah, and AEP.

Amass, shame on you.  He wants to start out with a Happy marriage - and by now (about the time that the bride and groom are both saying "Why didn't we elope?"), it's too late to get the deposits back and the families would KILL them!

Like you, I think a lot of stocks are cheap but not stupid cheap. Although valuations are below historical norms the uncertainty of America's economic future perhaps justifies a slight discount from those norms. WM is actually one of my CAPS picks but I regret making it a pick. I think it has the potential to be a value trap. It actually borders on being an evil company in my opinion because it deliberately skirts providing value to its employees and lately its customers. God forbid it should join the ranks of those companies whose leadership has determined to skirt providing value to shareholders. Companies that don't do good for anyone will eventually disappear. If only Sam Walton were still running the show.

Sorry, I must be getting tired. I mistook WM for Walmart but Walmart is WMT. Disregard my WM comments.

Yeah, Mary's right, you gotta stick with the plan at this point. I, on the other hand kept looking for stupid cheap right up to the wedding and now those words are part of her pet name for me. I wish I could have had three decades of accurate insightfulness from my broker instead, but one takes what one can get.

Just today I noticed the local Walmart's manager's phone number and name are printed on the receipt.  You can call him up and complaint if you want.  How bad can that be?
WM used to be WMI: Waste Management Incorporated.
