Supernova Investing

April 30, 2012 – Comments (4) | RELATED TICKERS: MEA.DL , CELG , ADM

It turns out that The Motley Fool's new investing service, Supernova, has nothing to do with exploding stars.  How disappointing. So to make up for their inadequacies, I wrote a piece for the Motley Fool Blog Network with a list of three stocks that you might want to have in your portfolio to hedge against the potential of a market crash following in the aftermath of a near-Earth supernova. I explain why you will want to own lead-shielding manufacturer Metalico (MEA), cancer drug maker Celgene (CELG), and the possible savior of our food chain, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM).  You might not survive the bombardment of radiation and cosmic rays or the ensuing ice age, but hopefully your portfolio can weather the storm.

Sorry. If I don't survive, why would I worry about my portfolio? It is for the exact same reason I am not preparing for Doomsday!

I would buy Anglogold Ashanti (AU).  Not for the gold but because they have the deepest mine in the world.  2.4 miles down will be prime real estate once the upper layers of the atmosphere are burned off.

I would suggest Kodiak oil and gas.. if you do proper research and analysis of the cant help buy get kodiak due to the growth prospects..this stock currently is just under 9$ and can see upto 20-30$ by 2013/14..earnings report on 3rd may , might see a sell off due to the hedging losses the company produces which throws people off but after this quarter its going to be solid earnings. wells fargo has a price target of 12$ for KOG , jim cramer says its a buy during the lightning round..several banks have a target of 11-12$ within a few months. do your research , you will be surprised

disclosure: i am LONG kog , this is the biggest position in my long term portfolio..
