SYSTEM STATUS: IE8 Broken

I spent a considerable amount of time this morning blaming my PC for not allowing me to open "MY CAPS" page without showing it for a microsecond and then breaking into an error:
"Page not found
You may have followed a link which is outdated or incorrect. Or we may have screwed up, these things happen."
The link to Contact US, was also broken.
Since Motley Fool will not bless us with a "SYSTEM STATUS" update, I decided to generate this quick blog in the hopes of saving a few Fools possible further frustration, (Since if you are reading this, you most likely attempted to access some of the CAPS features before resorting to checking the blogs).
After working with one of the Moderators, Richard, (whose a really great guy putting up with me on a frequent basis), we discovered that only Windows XP or Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 was "broken".
Mozilla Firefox and Windows 7 with IE9 do function.
(NOTE: IE9 does not work with XP, so if you are XP bound that is not an option).
I am not one to swallow the spider to catch the fly, so Mozilla Firefox is not an adequate "work around" for me, although I'm using it to notify the rest of the community. It does download and installs quickly from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
It can be installed, leaving IE as a default with no conflicts.
While I understand that Fool.com is a free service, so some excuse it as "is what it is", we have had this debate multiple times. As a user, my pitches and work are used frequently in Fool Articles, (often out of context) and the community as a whole acts to generate new subscribers to other paid services.
This is the third time in the last few weeks the system has been down "hard". Several times the system has not tracked.
At a minimum, I would request a system status banner/link that was easy to locate from the main page. This wouldn't help, obviously if the system was down hard, but would save some frustration when events like this occur.
The variety of Operating Systems and Browsers, along with plug-ins and support software leaves open a multitude of combinations that cannot always be tested by administrators/tech staff.
This issue was isolated to IE8 at about 10am this morning. While I suspect it was due to an update of some sort and issues with JAVA, it does not appear the tech staff found the solution yet. (As of 7PM Wednesday evening).
I'll keep Firefox in my back pocket through this Friday. Like ZZlangerhans and others who have posted recent frustrastions, ( portefeuille isusing Twitter) I have considerable IP invested in CAPS. I am hopefully we can find a balance of useability.
I do appreciate the staff, the site, and the background efforts that I don't see, but a system status would be a tool that would save everyone time and avoid multiple blogs or "notifying" the admins on known issues.
