NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Historical trends indicate (no guarantees, of course) that December will be a positive month for the U.S. stock market, with the information-technology category poised to tally the year's strongest performance.
Since 1929, the year's closing month ranks second after July in terms of average price gain, according to Standard & Poor's chief investment strategist Sam Stovall.
