I used to be mesmerized by that clock, but now I'm afraid to look at it. Debt will kill us before climate change or anything else. Alstry is still a nut though. :)

%85.304 now. It has risen since you wrote that a few hours ago.

Actually, it is documented on this site that i have asked for that number before, and been appalled that nofool knew the answer.

We owe you a debt for bringing that to our attention, and to the folks that feed that website.

Please post this again on Monday?

I have not looked at this site for a couple months. Many new stats have been added.

Here's one disconnect that popped out: Total U.S. workforce = 138,180,847 (this is going down by 1 every five seconds). Compare this to total taxpayers = 108,794,439. Most of the missing 29 million working, non-taxpayers are probably students, social security recipients, and part-timers who don't earn enough to pay taxes, but it is interesting that 21% of workers pay no taxes.

Then consider the public workforce (State & local employees = 16,926,088 {one job added every couple minutes} + federal employees = 4,238,382 {one job added every 4-5 minutes}). The combined public workforce =  21,164,470, or 15.3% of the total U.S. workforce. State and federal jobs can only be supported by private jobs and debt, and ultimately, they are only supported by the portion of private jobs that pay taxes. In the end, this country's economic sustainability lands on the 78.3 million private workforce that pays taxes. After one year, the administration is waking up to this fact, which is why there is now a move to correctly focus on growing private sector jobs.

lquadland10, the debtclock site records 10,135,069 illegal immigrants but not a total for undocumented workers. Data from other sources would be needed to determine a number. If the illegal immigrants number decreases, it will be interesting if the change can be tied to U.S. citizens filling jobs that employers previously claimed they could not fill with U.S. workers.

The debt clock shows the number of illegal immigrants declining at a rate just above one per minute (about 1,500 per day). I suppose most are finding better prospects elsewhere since many came to the U.S. for opportunity in the first place. At this rate, illegal immigrants will get to zero in about 18.5 years. That $345K liability per citizen number is not an effective marketing tool.

amassafortune in the last 2 and a half monts we are at almost 2 million illegal immigrants. I have been keeping track. However I do believe that most of the Illegal;s now have american children and most recieve welfare for them Food stamps Hud Housing Medical. Well the ones I have met through the bookstore I work at do. I make lots of friends and find out these things. Also if the parent does not have medical then if they go to the hospital they can work with social services and get a medacaid coverage for the stay. So it is some what of a bunk that the hospital forgoes all the money.

olddog51 you are so right.
