Thanks and Merry Christmas to Fooldom -- Three great small company picks for 2010

December 26, 2009 – Comments (14) | RELATED TICKERS: EBIX , APWR.DL

This site is the best of its kind on the internet, and I'm very grateful to all who contribute fantastic stock advice and picks on a regular basis.    I'm convinced that some of the finest investors in the world exist within these boards, and I appreciate all the good information that I have been able to gleem from many of you.   Many of you have helped me to develop as an investor, whether you were aware of it or not.    I appreciate your help, and I'd like to give back a bit.    Here is my Christmas gift to you....a handful of high-upside, low-downside near term picks for your portfolio.

CHWY -- This one isn't pickable yet on CAPS, which is unfortunate.    This is a rapidly growing wind turbine component manufacturer in China.   It has been flying under the radar for some time now, but they have officially filed the paperwork to list on the NASDAQ.   The stock has already begun to move.    Currently at just above 5, my short term target is 10-11 and year-end target 13-15.

LLFH -- Another OB stock about to list, this stock is actually pickable on CAPS.   It jumped a bit after the recent earnings report, which was stellar.   It is a rapidly growing coal provider that is flying under the radar.   I expect it to jump to 8-9 after listing and settle somewhere between 12-15 by year end.

YUII -- This stock just listed on the NASDAQ, so it already got it's short-term pop up to nearly 9.   However, the stock is still trading at a P/E that doesn't begin to reflect it's growth and market leadership in the day-old broiler market.   I'm not currently in this one, I was in just under 6 and out just over 8, but it's my fallback position after a couple of my short-term picks reach price targets.    I like it long-term, but it is just outside of my top 5 for the short-term right now.   Great company, great stock.

I still like EBIX and APWR to reach at least 50% gains this year, but the stocks above should be more explosive, with almost guaranteed pops for CHWY and LLFH after listing.    Good luck in 2010.   I've enjoyed learning the ropes in 2010, and I look forward to an aggressive 2010.

I just got into EBIX, owe someone a thank you for pointing it out early last week, and have been in APWR since early November.  Really like both for 2010.

Any thoughts on CHBT?  From what I'm reading the growth could be extremely explosive.

Thanks for the recommendations.  After looking into it buying some LLFH on Monday.

seriously?!?!? why do you have to spoil the fun on CHWY! i was hoping it would stay under the radar!

first, I'll say that both CHWY and LLFH are good investments.  However, neither are optionable.  So, I think you'd be better off buying calls/leaps in APWR because the stock is going to do nothing but go up for the next 2 years.  How much!? I have no idea? But unless something goes horribly wrong, APWR should be sitting at about $60 by year end 2010.

CHBT is out of my area of comfort.   I really don't understand the business model and therefore do not understand the obstacles to growth....etc.    It could very well be a great company, but it's one that I will walk right by and move on to the next one.

LLFH is my favorite from your list and would be the only one I'd consider owning.  I seem to be alone on this (as far as Chinese micros go), but I like the companies that are already cheap by earnings, not ones that are growing revenue and seem to be cheap based on what they're going to do.

My quick analyses often doesn't count the stuff you can read about how they're doubling capacity or other things.  However, I only have so many hours in a day and I prefer to further research the ones that already have some earnings power and are still undervalued.

Well, I hope a few people were able to open and enjoy their Christmas presents during today's action.    CHWY and LLFH both ran pretty well today.

CHWY.OB will be no more.   It officially lists tomorrow.   Look for it tomorrow on the NASDAQ as CWS

Good luck and Fool On!

Wow, I have to say thanks, because I got in on this stock today after reading your reasoning, and then doing some research this weekend.  What timing, this is one of the many reasons I love the Fool Community!

Big thanks from me regarding CHWY.  I did my research and like the operations.  Limited analyst coverage, but it was favorable.  Strong balance sheet, nice growth, reasonable valuation (not cheap, but not too expensive).

Nice post - wish I could give more than a +1 rec.

I would also like to thank for information on Ebix.  I purchased a few shares of the stock in  July and October 2009, and yesterday the stock split 3 for 1 - with no transaction fees.  I realize that a stock split has no affect on the current value of my stock.

However, the possibilities of the price going up are very good - and I own 3 times the shares now!  ;)

I would not have heard about Ebix without Fool.  So thank you to those in the community who give great recommendations so that I can research companies that would otherwise be unknown to me.

It took a little longer than expected, but LLFH (now LLEN) is now approved to list on the NASDAQ and the corresponding pop has occurred.

CWS just issued a horrible horrible $30 million shelf offering today.   I hope those of you who rode it up were able to get out near the top and exit with some nice gains.   If not, you have my apologies and I really hope you also jumped into LLFH as well.
