Dino,

Remember when people were laughing when I was forecasting 15% umemployment.......

Now companies are reducing their workforce 10%-15% at a crack......and unemployment is already over 6%...........

Before this bottoms.....if current policies remain in place....30-50% umemployment seems like a reasonable estimate......

Here is another announcement today:

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Micron Technology Inc. on Thursday said it is reducing its workforce by 15% and scaling back NAND flash memory production in response to declining demand and prices that have hurt many chip companies. Report this comment

Here is another 10% today from Brunswick:

Production of the fiberglass boats manufactured in these plants will be transitioned to other Brunswick facilities. The company said that these actions will result in the eventual elimination of approximately 1,450 hourly and salaried positions at these facilities, while increasing the efficiency and utilization at the receiving plants. The Arlington, Navassa and Roseburg shutdowns are expected to be completed by the end of 2008, with the Pipestone shutdown expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2009.

For what its worth, I closed a bunch of positions today.  I play CAPS a little different than most.....my goal is to have the highest average score with large number of picks.  It would be much easier to have a high average score with a few picks by just hitting one or two out of the park.

Further, if you notice I just started CAPs six months ago and am practically 100% short or inverse etfs....bascially I am trying out drop a falling knife....which puts me at an even further handicap in the game but makes real life returns much much higher.

Had I started CAPs when most of the other top players started...my nominal score would have been right up there and my average score would have been much higher....but in the end it is average score that I shoot for and the rest will take care of itself as long as I am good at picking lots of winners.

My CAPS style of play is much more reflective of my real life investing as opposed to trying to optimize for points.

Guys like FloridaBuilder are much better CAPS players than I am.....I defer to them for advice in the game.

ZYG,

As far as my view on China.....I have always thought Chinese women are very attractive......the Chinese people are very industious and enterprising, and the potential second to none.....but there are lost of landmines and obstacles with such a combination.
