How extraordinary! Carlyle -- one of the world's largest alternative investment firms -- is apparently examining plans to go public. It's as if the credit crisis had never occurred.

I'm positive any offering would be heavily oversubscribed... just as Blackstone's June 2007 IPO was. Here's how the two large publicly-traded alternative investment firms have performed since their listings:
