The definition of hyperinflation

November 01, 2010 – Comments (4)

Cagan's definition is the one used.  50% inflation per month.  We are not going to have 50% increase per month.

We will have high inflation, super duper inflation, monster inflation, skoopy doop puddin dooper it whatever you want, stop using the word hyperinflation.

I would be surprised if we have 50% inflation in a year, based upon official US calculations.

However, 10% inflation for a couple years could be a big shock to people.

Don't be so sure. The chance of huge hyperinflation is quite low, but it exists. Remember, when it starts, many well-connected people learn how to benefit from it, and then it becomes hard to stop it.
