From TMZ:

Joe Francis and Larry Flynt claim the economy has made America's sexual appetite go limp, so they're going to the one place where sex is always rampant -- Congress.

Flynt (the "Hustler" guy) and Francis (the "Girls Gone Wild" dude) are asking the government for a $5 billion bailout, claiming the adult entertainment industry has taken a huge shot to the face because of the downturn -- citing the fact that XXX DVD sales are down 22% from a year ago.

"With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind," Flynt says. "It's time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America."

Francis sees his industry like the big three automakers, only BIGGER: "Congress seems willing to help shore up our nation's most important businesses; we feel we deserve the same consideration."

Francis says he's going to D.C. to personally make the pitch. Sounds like someone has a bone to pick.

Porn industry the new recipient of government bailout cash?

In a statement, Larry Flynt said that the economic downturn has been mirrored by a sexual downturn. "Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex," he said.

Godspeed, Mr. Flynt

Larry Flynt is asking for a bailout.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.

“The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three,” said Owen Moogan, spokesman for Larry Flynt. “The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.”

Francis said in a statement that “the US government should actively support the adult industry's survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people."

“We should be delivering [the request] by the end of today to our congressmen and [Secretary of the Treasury Henry] Paulson asking for this $5 billion dollar bailout,” he told CNN Wednesday.

Flynt and Francis concede the industry itself is in no financial danger — DVD sales have slipped over the past year, but Web traffic has continued to grow.

But the industry leaders said the issue is a nation in need. "People are too depressed to be sexually active," Flynt said in the statement. "This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex."

"With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly."

So far, there has been no congressional reaction to the request.

hahaha, that's hilarious...

As stupid as this is, they actually have a valid argument here. I mean seriously, if one industry gets a bailout, why shouldn't they all.

Besdies, chrysler is getting some bills and they are arguably way more grotesquethan the porn industry. I'm just saying...

They're right. Sex is vital to the nation.  We need to stimulate procreation to keep social security going.

this could work. sin stocks are a stalwart in bad times and few people own brothels, the traditional money making enterprise of sex.

and, try as we might, people just won't stop doing it. tsk, tsk.

the porn industry just wants a happy ending. :)

[#3] Procreation does not need to be stimulated unless there are guaranteed jobs for those new people. Making more people without jobs does not increase the amount of money contributed to the Social Security System; it increases the number of people needing welfare and Medicaid. One way of measuring the number of excess people we have is to examine the number of people unemployed, underemployed, and underpaid (i.e., not paid enough to live on). Included in this figure are those that are too discouraged to even look for work anymore. So we should really discourage procreation until the unemployment is significantly decreased.
