The Uptick Rule is meaningless...It won't change a thing... People are making too big a deal out of the return of the Uptick Rule.  There is no impact in today's market for the uptick rule..... Seriously... Maybe it had an impact after the Great Depression when stocks were trading at
.00000001.   Yea.. Then maybe the uptick rule was a help.


Today?  nooooooooway.... Noooooooo how....  Uptick Rule isn't going to do anything... Waste of time....

The Uptick Rule... People making such a big deal...  Dow is still going to 4000... Russel 2000 will soon look like the Russel 20.   There's no hope here.... Just wishful thinking from all of these &^%$ who want the uptick rule back.

I saw you picked Textron...  my worst pick on caps and not a good one in real life either  (bought at 16, 12, 9, 7, then sold out to take a loss and am waiting 2 more weeks to get back in).  I hope its still cheap when I can get back in.  Bell or Cessna or Defense (take your pick) are, any one by itself, worth far more than the current market cap.  The value of Financial would have to be negative many billion for this pricing to be justified.  

Enough textron its not my biggest holding or anything, but...

the uptick rule will be worth +10% to the market by summer, fundamentals aside.

The uptick rule had a big effect when bid/ask spreads were wider before the advent of electronic trading.

Also, when stocks traded in fractions the effect was much larger than once stocks began trading in decimals.

An uptick of 1 cent on a stock with a $20.00 price is just a 0.05% rise, so just one twentieth of one percent..... enough to be considered noise, but woefully insufficient to count as a reliable signal of more than a momentary change in direction.

Unfortuantely it just doesn't carry that much weight now.
