The Value of Patience

February 29, 2012 – Comments (2) | RELATED TICKERS: AAPL , NFLX

Reviewing my investment process lately, I have realized that one of biggest problems has been impatience. I have ruined many good investment ideas by selling too early.. typically because I haven't allowed my thesis enough time to play out. It's almost painful to remember some of them.. AAPL at $90.. (though I did buy back at $200) and NFLX at $40 are just two that come to mind. It has happened probably even more times with selling losers that I just wanted to "get rid of." My investment theses in many of the cases were not wrong, I just had not allowed them enough time to develop.

That's my goal for this year. Have an extremely clear thesis for EVERY single stock and refuse to sell unless i) your thesis is no longer valid or ii) you find clearly more attractive opportunities

The fund was in the red by around 20% at its November 2011 performance low. It is currently in the green by around 58%, so the fund "has about doubled" since then. So far the only "fund investor" am I. At least a partial one ...
