Thinking out loud about Japan

I think Japan needs to unload some citizens. I think we (USA & Canada) should open our borders to any and all Japanese citizens and businesses that wish to flee those islands.

I believe since the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear power plant mess there are a few hundred thousand people that would not mind a change. In my opinion this would benefit us and them. I think this could revitalize the entire west coast, from Vancouver to San Diego. The Japanese could move here, buy the available homes and business properties a great discount They could pump the Yen from their savings and settlements into our economies as they rebuild their lives.

Sorry this idea is DOA because the USA only welcomes uneducated illegal immigrants.

Anyone with a diploma needs to jump through hoops for 7 years, spend thousands of dollars, and most likly be denied access to the USA.

This is about what I think should happen. It is not about the current reality.

P.S. - Any idea is DOA unless you do your part to make it happen.

Fleeing them islands in mass  ?????????????????????

Sounds like a horrible plan....  If they were to relocate  there are a lot better and more locally located places in Asia for them.

If I was Japanese I would stay and rebuild fleeing  would  be cowardly to me.

I would support a law providing fast track immigration from Japan, much like we have for Cubans.

I suspect that Canada, Australia, New Zealand and a few other places will see an increase in immigrants from Japan, while there will be minimal change in the USA.

Japan has had a demographic problem for awhile, and I suspect that this disaster will result in significant relocation of people from the areas near the power plants to areas farther from them.  This shift will likely be similar to what happened with Katrina, but with fewer people returning to the effected areas.

Ha-ha, true. It took me 11 years ( 6 years green card and 5 years citizenship).  I made it barely...

As for Japanese, I doubt they would want to live in the US, too much of a cultural difference in my observation.
