OK, I realize that this is slightly off of the topic of investing...but I couldn't take it any more.  This nutty woman in California who had octuplets absolutely disgusts me.  She should be locked up in jail and so should the doctor who helped her with the process of getting pregnant.

Why on Earth is a woman who already has six children (ages 2 to 7), no husband, and no job, having another child...let alone eight?!?!?!  She's completely off of her rocker.  And you know who's going to end up paying for her lazy, nutty arse?  You and I.  Her children should be put up for adoption and given to normal, sane people.

Taxpayers may have to cover octuplet mom's costs

People should not be allowed to milk the system like this.  Here's how much you and I are paying this woman:

$490 a month in food stamps

plus

$793 x 3 disabled kids (before the 8) = $2,379 from Social Security

plus

an estimated $1.3 million for the hospital bill to deliver the octuplets

plus

She could end up getting another several grand from the state on top of the money that she already receives for any of the octuplets that are messed up (several of them probably are). 

She already has milked disability for a supposed on-the-job back injury during a riot at a her former job, which ironically was at the state mental hospital, to the tune of $165,000.  She even spent some of this money on her in vitro fertilizations, which cost an estimated $100,000, instead of using it to provide for the children that she already has.  Are you kidding me?!

She's a complete scammer.  This kook is completely taking advantage of the system while other people work their fingers to the bone to pay the Social Security tax that she accepts and will likely never ever receive a dime of it.

Ane here's what her "spokesperson" said to defend her actions:

"I would just ask people to consider her situation and she has been under a tremendous amount of pressure that no one could be prepared for."

She's under a tremendous amount of pressure because she CHOOSE to have children even though her household only has one potential earner and six other mouths to feed, and she CHOOSE to have eight embryos embedded even though she was warned that she could have multiple children!!!!  She put herself in this situation.  Good grief.

*Steps up on soap box* What really burns me up about that woman is if she wanted kids so bad but didnt want to work then why not become a foster mother?  The system is overloaded with lost children looking for a home. Not only would she be making a difference in childrens lives, but she would have recieved a stipend and health benefits to boot for the children.  What a selfish selfish woman. *Steps down off of soap box*

Unfortunately.....all those children stand a very high chance of falling into foster care eventually anyway.  Media sources were actually trying to air this as a "feel good" story until they began to catch wind of the public's perception.  The media is so out of touch with society...they barely know how to sell thier stories anymore.

Anyway....this is the mentallity and reallity that the media and gov. have strived for.  I remember inthe 80' and 90's when these stories were the "feel good" segment of the news.  I also remember when they glorified CEO's and Wall Street....and glorified the investing world...selling them as uber shrewd and intelligent people who made tons of money because of their elusive tallents.

Couldn't agree with you more.  And what are the social agencies that are supposed to be protecting these children doing?  Did anyone see that her own mother called her unfit for these children? I wish we could hold the doctor liable for fertility treatment, but that is a whole different can of worms.  He's certainly not going to do a credit/background check and he'll certainly take the money she gave him. 

 License for a dog, license for a car, license to fish and hunt, no license or even parenting class required to have children.

Two generations ago it was not uncommon at all for a women to have 10 or more children. In the event that the mother were left to raise the children on her own (for whatever reason -- it doesn't matter) there was typically major support received from the community.

I'm not saying that I am not* appalled by this as well, but observing the outrage just goes to show how community support has evolved from face-to-face communication, support, and communion to mailed letters, digital deposits, and electronic messages.

The zeitgeist of our society has changed to encourage this.

It also goes to show that instead of taking care of the less fortunate children in our communities we would rather use artificial means to have our own.

First, I'll be honest and say that I think the woman is a parasite and a scammer.  She probably also has mental issues in my opinion. 

 I also believe that all the government benefits that increase when people have children need to have limits.  Maybe cover up to 4 children.  After that, they are on their own.  You should not be allowed to breed like rabbit and expect the taxpayers to continually increase your support.  Doing so only encourages these whackos to keep pumping out babies.

In observing my coworkers, I have found it interesting how people can get incredibly worked up over a one or two million dollar scam, but can be placid as sheep over a one or two trillion dollar scam, so long as the scam artist wears a suit and uses sufficiently large words.

I love children.  When I donate to charity, I make sure that the money goes to kids or to people with special needs.  Adults make their own choices and the helpless children are the ones who have to suffer.

This woman might not be legitimately crazy.  Perhaps she's as crazy as a fox.  She's completely taking advantage of the system and milking it for all it is worth.  She probably saw that show on TLC or Discovery about that couple who had eight kids and said $$$$$ hey I can do that and I'll be rich and famous, too.

Adults who hurt children absolutely sicken me, regardless of their mental state.

The jail comment was sarcasm, but the state should seriously fine the doctor that would provide in vitro to this woman and should consider taking the children and putting them in a place where they will be properly cared for.
