TMFJake, TMFCHarris: bring back searching for players!!!!

April 05, 2011 – Comments (3) | RELATED TICKERS: AAR.DL2 , R , G

Please! I thought this would have been addressed by now, out of a loud clamor erupting from frustrated players who blog more often than I. No, apparently not. What happened to players coming up on the search screen, and why? That was by far the quickest, easiest way for someone with a touch-pad mouse on a laptop to access his favorite players and their blogs. What happened? Why was it dropped? Precious "real estate"? That spot is empty now. Privacy? People don't blog their private thoughts that they want sheltered from the public, and even if they did, the more elaborate steps I have to go through wouldn't shield anyone, just irritate me, the searcher. Something else? Please do explain. I've seen no explanation for why a ticker/keyword search returns no players, and it has been driving me up the wall for months now.

P.S. I forget which of you does what, so I cast a broad net.

You can just click players, and then search for players.  Its only 1 extra click.

Sorry about the delay on this. The old search was becoming unwieldy (the databases we were searching were  hitting size limits, and were threatening to take down the site for a while) so we upgraded to a indexed search. Unfortunately, the indexing is still sub-par, and I haven't been able to prioritize significant improvements. I am pushing for it, though, and we'll hopefully see something better soon.

Chris - thanks for the reply and explanation. I guess I'm not technical enough to know about such things, and I'm spoiled by Google's seemingly unlimited resources.

Val - It's more than one more click - it's the breaking of a habit and retraining (which is frustrating, because I'm lazy). Also, it's one click times the number of players whose blogs I want to read. Furthermore, one click may not seem like much when you have a real mouse, but space constraints keep me using my touchpad on my laptop, and it is not fun moving my cursor around the screen all the time. That's why it was worth mentioning.
