Top 10 Corporate Givers

August 02, 2012 – Comments (2)

No investable intelligence here, but thought it was interesting that half of the top ten in corporate philanthropy were 'evil' banks (GS, WFC, JPM, BAC and C).  Biggest donor was Walmart.

More here.

And an interactive graphic.

I own shares in four of the ten, WFC, CVX, GE and C, but don't think there's any useful takeaway there either.

Funny how many people hate Walmart yet there it is right at the top, right before Goldman Sachs. Haha.

Just one question:

"No. 1 Wal-Mart Stores, which has 22 stores in Dayton with 3,800 local employees and nearly $700 million in local sales;"

Dayton has 141,527 residentsWalmart has 4512 stores (3909 Walmart, 613 Sam's Club) in the US, or about 1 per 70,000 US residents. Why does Dayton need more than 10 times the number of Walmarts per resident?

OK, it is a slow news day...
