10:  Dept. Education      :    Public School System versus Private/Charter Schools... Where would you send your kids if you had a choice between the two in terms of payment (versus being forced to fund the public school whether you're kids are there or not)?

9:  HUD  :   Just another agency looking to provide homes to those who can not afford to keep them....

8:  DHS:  Dept. of Homeland Security?  Has the "System Worked?" ever?

7:  TSA:   See above

6:  Border Patrol:  They aren't given the federal authority to do their jobs....ever....and thrown in prison when they DO their jobs right....So in the end...why keep them?  Seems Amnesty is unavoidable when Republicans AND Democrats are in favor of it.

5:  Antitrust:   They let the BUD INBEV deal happen.... They let Whirlpool take over Maytag.... And I am sure I can come up with plenty more Monopolies that have occured under the lax eye of the Antitrust office.  What.... now it is ok for COMCAST to control NBC Univ.?  I'm willing to bet Antitrust folds.

4:  Medicare/Medicaid/Soc. Security        Ponzi Schemes that are all in the red...insolvent....busted.

3.  SEC:    They are in part in charge of shutting down Ponzi Schemes.  How have they done so far?  MADOFF????  *oops*  Standard Federal Bank?  *oops*  And they refuse to go after the 3 biggest Ponzi Schemes in U.S. History to date.... Medicare/Medicaid/Soc. Sec.

2.  IRS:     This organization simply wouldn't exist if America had either a Flat Tax system or a National Sales Tax system to replace our current "Unfair Tax" system.

1:  EPA:    What exactly are they in charge of other than destroying America's Economy?
Save the environment?  What??? From what?? Carbon Dioxide which Humans breathe out? and is a requirement for plants/trees to survive?

We have an agency that wants to destroy the planet with their mind blowingly stupid ideas of saving it.  wrong minded Cultism reigns supreme here.... Of all the agencies that can KILL Human Kind...The E.P.A. is it... They do not care 1 whit about HUMAN BEINGs....  They only care about the dirt under your feat cause to them the dirt is worth more than you.  You are expendable.

P.S.  Obamacare when/if it happens would be #1 and EPA #2 and etc.

History shows that some regulation of the equities markets are necessary for efficient accumulation of capital. (Totally unregulated markets are too subject to manipulation and investors stay on the sidelines, making it hard for legit businesses to raise capital.)

While the SEC hasn't had a stellar record, we need something. Just getting rid of it returns us to the days of Jesse Livermore and stock watering and bear raids.

chk999,

Which history is that?  The Orwellian version or the real version?  And what has government/regulators ever done to ensure "efficient accumulation of capital?"  In fact, what the eff does that even mean?  And why is it necessary?

There is only government or the market.  There is no in between.

I dont think he is saying that theres no need for these agencies.  I think he is saying that these agencies are defunct and corrupt, not operating in their intended mission.  This makes them a huge waste of taxpayer dollars and a drain on our economy (those dollars could be used more effectively elsewhere).  In the case of the SEC, they just havent been taking the rampant fraud thats been going on for the last decade seriously. For the past decade the SEC has been severely understaffed and I saw little effort to correct that problem.  Last time I checked they still aren't really hiring that much. A regulatory agency cannot be effective if not given to tools to do so.  Seems like the only tools available are the ones in Congress.

Good idea to cut down on govt spending and deptartments, but all of the ones proposed.

CHK is right.

"There is only government or the market.  There is no in between."  Absolutism is almost never right and this is another case.  Left unchecked the wealthy would run over poor, have for all of history so it is extremely niave to think it would be any different absent govt regulation.  Could it be reduced? Sure, but take it away and wealth disparity would quickly be 90/10.

I forgot to add that I do not support pulling the plug on my Top 10 list so you wake up....eat..breakfast....turn on the news...and discover there's no longer an SEC...EPA....HUD....etc. anymore....

A lot of these things require slow progress through private sector alternatives.

Personally... I would like to break out the duties of the SEC and spread them around several private sector auditing firms.

So... perhaps An Audit Firm like Deloitte and Touche is in charge of shutting down Ponzi Schemes when they discover them and are able to prove it is a ponzi scheme in Court...

And another Auditing Firm in charge of registering IPOs in the Markets....

And another in charge of what ever other duty the SEC does and etc. etc. etc.

That way we don't have a gigantic beuracratic bunch of baffoons sitting in Grey Smoke Filled Rooms doing aboslutely nothing for us and yet getting paid by Taxpayers for it.
