Tuesday's 52 Week Highs

An old saying in investing is that the trend is your friend.  This is data I collected for those who look for stocks that are setting 52 week highs.

Tuesday saw 665 instances of 57 stocks hitting 52 week highs.

During the first 30 minutes there were 115 instances of 52 week highs.  The 10:00 hour saw 31 instances.  The 11:00 hour saw 56 instances.  The noon hour saw 75 instances.  The 1:00 hour saw 92 instances.  The 2:00 hour saw 111 instances.  The final hour saw 185 instances.

The stock that saw the most number of new highs was Cimarex Energy Company ( XEC ) which saw 83 new highs, being up $4.38 or 5.89% at 3:59.  It ended the day at $78.66 up $4.32 or 5.81% with 2,872,326 shares traded.

The stock that saw the biggest % change was Jingwei International LTD ( JNGW ) which was up $3.73 or 81.98% at 3:06.  It ended the day at $6.93 up $2.28 or 49.03% with 246,099 shares traded.

There were two stocks under $2.00 a share that set 52 week highs.  They were NBS/WS and USATZ.  NBS/WS hit a high of $0.85 up 21.43% at 2:55 before losing ground and ending the day at $0.50 down $0.15 or -23.07% with 3,700 shares traded.  USA Technologies Inc ( USATZ ) hit a high of $0.30 up 57.89% at 1:57 but then reversed and ended the day at $0.18 down $0.01 or -5.26% with 21,900 shares traded.

There were four stocks between $2.00 and $5.00 a share setting 52 week highs.  These were AKRX, IRDMZ, JSDA and TOF.  In this group, Jones Soda Company ( JSDA ) had 26 new highs.  The stock hit its high of $2.32 at 9:38 and ended the day at $2.02 up $0.14 or 7.4%.

There were nine stocks hitting 52 week highs that sell between $5.00 and $10.00.  They were DIVX, HYC, JNGW, LCC, LMAT, LPSB, MIG, OVLY and TGA.  The stock setting the most new highs was US Airways Group Inc ( LCC ) which set 51 new highs, the highest of $9.55 was reached at 11:43.  It ended up the day at $9.44 up $0.80 or 9.26%.  The overall best in this group was JingWei International LTD which hit a high of $8.28 up $3.73 or 81.98% at 3:06.  It ended the day at $6.93 up $2.38 or 52.31%.

There were twenty-three stocks that sell between $10.00 and $25.00 a share making 52 week highs.  These stocks were BAF, BBNK, BIN, BOOT, BSL, DFZ, DTPI, FISI, GNA, IGI, MFT, MZF, NMP, NMT, NNJ, NRBpC, NTX, NUM, NVN, NX, PANL, QCOR and VIRL.  The stock with the most new highs was Universal Display Corporation ( PANL ) which hit 24 highs reaching a high of $18.18 up $0.79 or 4.47%.  The stock ended the day at $18.34 up $0.65 or 3.67%.  The stock that had the highest % gain was Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation ( GNA ) which hit a high of $11.23 up $4.06 or 56.62%.  It ended the day at $11.07 up $3.90 or 54.39%.

There were fifteen stocks that sell between $25.00 and $50.00 a share that hit 52 week highs.  These were AGP, ALK, CPEX, DHRw, DTV, GISw, GJF, KVN/CL, LNCR, NTAP, RDY, RVTpB, SM, THOR, THS.  The stock with the most new highs was Thoratec Corporation ( THOR ) which set 78 new highs.  The highest was $46.48 up $3.63 or 8.47%.  It ended the day at $45.46 up $2.61 or 6.09%.  The stock that ended the day with the biggest % gain was Alaska Air group Inc ( ALK ) which ended at $49.93 up $3.75 or 8.12%.  This was its high for the day.

There were 4 stocks that sell between $50.00 and $100.00 a share that set 52 week highs.  These were ABII, EW, HTWR and XEC.  XEC had the most number of new highs and was described earlier in this report.  Abraxis Bioscience Inc ( ABII ) showed the biggest % gain.  At its high it was at $54.88 up $4.01 or 8.01% at 3:59.  It ended the day at 54.38 up $3.57 or 7.03%.

There were no stocks over $100.00 a share that set 52 week highs today.

So far this week we have seen 91 stocks set 52 week highs.  Of these 91, the following 15 have seen highs every day this week; BOOT, BSL, DTPI, HTWR, HYC, JSDA, LMAT, MZF, NMP, NUM, NX, PANL, QCOR, RDY and XEC.
