Union Hires Non-Union Workers to Protest Non-Union Hiring

July 18, 2010 – Comments (5)

That headline probaby doesn't make a lot of sense, but neither does this union.  In what might be the funniest irony in marxist history, a labor union hires non-union, out-of-work employees.... exactly the same type of people they would call scabs if they were brought in to work for the bourgeois exploiter..... to picket for them...... about the hiring of non-union workers.

I think my brain is bleeding.

To Protest Hiring of Nonunion Help, Union Hires Nonunion Pickets

WASHINGTON—Billy Raye, a 51-year-old unemployed bike courier, is looking for work.

Fortunately for him, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council of Carpenters is seeking paid demonstrators to march and chant in its current picket line outside the McPherson Building, an office complex here where the council says work is being done with nonunion labor.

....the union hires unemployed people at the minimum wage—$8.25 an hour—to walk picket lines. Mr. Raye says he's grateful for the work, even though he's not sure why he's doing it. "I could care less," he says. "I am being paid to march around and sound off."

This has been going on for a long time. In the California grocers strike in the early 2000s, all the pickets were non-union hires, many illegal aliens, at least in the San Diego area. If it weren't so pitiful, it would call for a good laugh. Unions such as SEIU no longer have the good of the worker as a goal, they see them as contributors to the Andy Stern vision of socialist Amerika.

It is kind of funny, that a union is not able to pay a union member to protest. what would a union protester be paid for this job?

Union members would get paid $32.50/hour, take 8 hours to protest one block, and slash the tires of any non-union workers doing the  same work for minimum wage.  Honestly, if the unions hired union workers to protest and lobby for them, the unions would be bankrupt within a couple years.
