At about two years old it was apparrent that I had an interest in music. I could sing the Grateful Deads Ripple all the way though, and was always banging on pots N' pans.

When I was about ten my Mother asked me if I wanted to take up a musical instrument. My resounding answer was Yes! the drums. She said okay we'll rent you a kit and pay for lessons, and if you stick with it we'll buy you a kit.

Dude, why did you make me watch two George Michael videos in a row?

My eyes are bleeding.

As for the original subject, I'll post it one day and it does have an investment angle to it.

Cheers.

R.E.M. Shiny Happy People

If you notice in the lyrics they say "Gold and Silver shine..."

Just think if you bought into Gold and Silver back when this song first came out.

Hmmmm, maybe that's why they're so shiny and happy?

blesto, long Happy

So every Christmas and birthday I've been getting precious Silver coins.

I stuck with it and got my own kit.

God bless my mother for putting up with the noise. Playing the drums is all about repitition. So she would come home after a hard days work and here this every day-

http://joeamatodrums.com/the-13-essential-drum-rudiments/

A bit later I met my best freind, for the purposes of this blog we'll call him Mr. Crowley. He was a big fan of Jimmy Page, and my favourite drummer is John Bonham. So we spent countless hours doing Zepplin covers. One Christmas I got him a violin bow and in less then a week we were able to play Dazed and Confused in it's entirety. I'm talking the thirty minute version off The Song Remains the Same.

Welp at this point High school is over. I've done my fair share of partying, so I was'nt what you would consider to be a studious kid. I was able to get by from aceing the tests even if I pulled a C or a D in the class. My options at that point were join the military for the college grant, or party on....

I think you can guess which path I chose. Mr. Crowley went on to college and is now a higher up at a publicly traded company that I'm not going to mention. I can just see it, the SEC busts me for insider trading, yet they knew nothing about Bernie Madhoff.

Hooked up with some older dudes (older meaning they could legally buy beer)We'll call the guitarast Ziggy Stardust and the bassist Boris the spider. They partied hard, seriously they had substances I never heard about. We formed a jam band and would play parties. We would do the gig for free beer, the drugs always flowed our way, and being young and in a band there was never a lack of female companionship.

We speclized in pychodilio. early Pink Floyd, Phish, The dead. Ziggy was a master of the effect pedals and could create sounds that were somewhat outerworldly. Boris and I could start a song with a simple groove and just roll with it, Improvising into this huge wall of sound that would envelop all listeners into a somewhat Zen like trance. I swear when I was behind the kit during one of our extended jams I could see the music in waves of color.

I got a fake I.D so we could play in the local dive bars on weekends. Most owners never checked it. They were just happy that we drew a full bar.

It all came to a crashing halt...

I just finished listening to all of those rudiments. Fascinating to hear all the clicks and pops of the old vinyl.

Btw, nothing like seeing sound in color, eh?

Boris who was quite fond of pills overdosed and died.

A few months later when we were looking for a new bass player. Ziggy hit a pedestrian while driving drunk. Wen't to jail for two years.

I managed to get out of life in the fast lane relativly unscathed.

Had some close calls-

Luckily the girl I was with knew to roll me over otherwise I'd be hanging with my heroes John Bonham and Jimi Hendrix right now.

Also as the song goes well I'm tellin you son, that it ain't no fun staring staight down a .44.

Seeing what happened to my freinds straightened me out to where the stongest thing I'll touch is a Budweiser. (Never while driving)

That being said why drugs are'nt legal is just effin retarded.

It's always your choice.
