Video of BYD’s e6 Pure Electric Vehicle By Ravi Nagarajan

The interest in this site’s coverage of BYD’s e6 Pure Electric Vehicle has been very strong.  I initially looked into BYD after Berkshire Hathaway announced an investment in the company.  Although I have been skeptical of hybrids and electric vehicles for a long time, I think that the statistics associated with the e6 almost guarantee that electric vehicles will have a place in the American car market over the next decade.

I found the video appearing below from a post on the Mispricing blog through a link on the Nightly Investment Links website.  This brief interview with one of BYD’s engineers sheds brings us some images of the e6 that I have not seen previously.

Hey rational, I would call this thing total bs if buffett hadn't of invested in it, surely he would check out their claims.  The problem is the Chinese claimed to have figured out a practical battery technology when nobody else has been able to do so, and it is based on iron according to their website.  Iron of course has a relatively high atomic weight. I am not a negative person, but this just doesn't see very plausible.

Buffett, Sokol, and Munger all vouch for the technology and the viability of BYD's product.  We will soon see the results with production of the e6 starting in China in the second half of this year and plans to import the car to the US in 2011.

I would be shocked if the battery claims for range, power, etc, are false.  Anyone who follows Munger knows that he isn't one to buy into BS and fall for sales pitches.  These guys have done extensive DD and they are  wiser than I am in terms of making an evaluation.
