Did the Babyboom of Geo-Thermal Energy go bust of late?  ORMAT has quit paying its small dividend this year and its share price has plummeted along with US Geo-Thermal's, Nevada Geo-Thermal's, as well as Canada's Alterra Power and Ram Power.

Yes I know its expensive to develop but the governments of both countries are trying to recommend to home owners and companies alike that they should consider utilizing the earths heat source in new construction and in retro-fits. The Canadian Govt is even providing rebates to home owners, etc that spend the extra money to go Green. That's not even discussing the comforts of heating & cooling using this Green source of energy.

Back to the main topic; why are these companies suffering such losses in their stock prices and valuations?

With natural gas so cheap, these green energy sources are even less attractive than ever. Coal will also suffer.

Siemens abandoned nuclear so it has more resources toward geo. Good for the industry, not neccessarily good for ormat.

You are also lookng at the second best type of geothermal.

WFC in Canada and LXU in the USA for heating your house. There are others that are part of larger companys harris for instance.

Its a fun game though. I spent $20k converting my oil burner to geothermal. My brother spent $2k converting his oil burner to gas. He has a gas bill, I don't. I have an electric expense that he doesn't. He gets heat. I get heat and AC.

Hopefully, I'll be happier in ten years.

Best wishes,

Steven

Hello, Sweet Mircha, alternative energy interests me, but as my husband says its not a full grown industry yet.

Keep warm! My husband built us a teardrop camper just in time to get a little camping in this fall. We have a ceramic heater inside which is good since we plan to camp tonight and it will be in the 30's. If you send me an e-mail, I will send you pictures of the camper. Mine is limoneater@gmail.com (lemoneater was already taken :)
