What a Marathon Pipeline Spin-Off Would Do

As someone who is a huge fan of special situations I like to highlight new ones from time to time in my CAPS picks or blog posts.  Here's an interesting article about a potential spin-off of Marathon's pipeline assets into an MLP...something that I would be very, very interested in if the terms if the offering were right.

Assuming that it doesn't get too much love from investors, and it might given the 10%+ spike in MPC's share price after releasing medeocre results, but...announcing that it was considering spinning off its pipeline assets, a stand-alone Marathon MLP has the potential to fit right into the "dividend paying IPO" type of market-crushing stock that I talked about a few days ago.  This would probably be true even if the new company was completely spun-off to current shareholders rather than sold in an offering.

This is a situation that I definitely plan to keep an eye on.
