What Are You Wheaton For?

August 13, 2010 – Comments (8) | RELATED TICKERS: SLW , HL , CDE

Some investors refuse to seriously consider gold and silver producers as legitimate choices for investment capital.

Where such decisions are based upon thorough and objective research, I take no issue.

Unfortunately, I observe that many refusals to invest in the sector are born of suppositions, misconceptions, and even prejudices. The result, often, is that decisions are made to avoid the sector without a trace of real consideration.

All the while, one company in particular continues to shine so brightly that it commands the attention of every Fool ... whether you view silver as a de facto currency or merely an industrial commodity. If you haven't taken a long, hard look at Silver Wheaton (NYSE: SLW), I ask you: What are you Wheaton for?

A Mighty Attractive Metals Stock

Silver Wheaton shares have appreciated nearly 700% since I highlighted an unmistakable opportunity back in 2008, and more recently I expressed my expectation for the stock to reach $100 before this precious-metals bull market has finished running its course. So whether you view silver through the lens of a hard currency in a world of papier-mache, or a commodity play on rising industrial demand, what exactly are you Wheaton for?

Sure, misinformation is aplenty (and so is prejudice), and too many base their decisions on it! But don't be too hard on the masses. Maybe they just don't get it. Warren Buffett will not invest in an industry or business he doesn't understand either, so they are in good company.

Thanks for providing this information on SLW. It deserves attention. I may pick some up myself...

When you've written as many articles on SLW as I have, you start to run out of clever headlines. :)

Stupid Little Winner - something for both the gold Bulls and Bears.

The gold bears may think its stupid but they can't look at its financial statement and think anything other than winner!

Did you follow this? Thought you'd have been all over it. Wish you had- maybe it would have been seen by more. Seems kind of important.

Holy cow ... I completely missed that one. You're right, I would have been all over it.

Which reminds me of something I was going to put out there today anyway .... I would like all Fools to treat my e-mail address:

as a tip line of sorts. If there's ever a piece of news that you consider niteworthy, and especially if you don't see me posting anything about it, please feel free to toss me a link.

As you all know, there is an endless torrent of data and information crossing the wires each day, and the capacity for me to miss an important development is illustrated well in the post that Starfire just steered me towards.

Anyway, I'm glad you informed the community, and I will try not to let future developments pass me by. :)

Strongman- Don't forget the nv- proud to be of the Silver State (NOT Vegas). Run with it. Write it up. Needs to be seen so put your name on it. Oh, the distinctions you've made betweem "allocated" and "unallocated". It matters. Oh- Is the Cox thing safe? Went to the Urban Dictionary, but didn't see "niteworthy" (but I did have multiple visuals dance thru my head). However donkeypunch is there (if you were wondering). I don't think anyone got it. Thanks. As always, Regards.

You guys need to listen to Chris. I'm sitting on nice % gains in both my accts on this stock.  SLW just reported earnings and they had a quarter so solid, analysts raised estimates and the lowest estimated price is still about $2 higher than the current stock price.  Just based on that alone this is a screaming buy.
