This is one of the most affluent areas in the nation. So why are the kids stealing a million bucks worth of food every year?
There are a lot of poor kids in Fairfax County. Part of the reason the avg household income is $120K (or whatever it is) is because so many Herdoners are Hondurans living 10 to a house.
Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that Fairfax county is facing a foreclosure crisis along with most of the country, would it?
I want to clarify that I am not endorsing theft as a course of action for the poor.
I also want to point out that Fairfax County is one of the most left-wing, wasteful, and hypocritical counties in the country, as well as being one of the most affluent, and the same can be said of Fairfax city. The shortfall in the school budget, you may have noticed, dwarfs the theft. That $150M shows what happens when you write a blank check for a bureaucracy to take up a worthy-sounding cause (education for all) and don't allow any competition or freedom.
Well, to me, the budget shortfall in Fairfax is more the result of unthinking development: Let anyone and everyone build McMansions and crud condos wherever they'll fit. Run the utilities out to them, and... oops, now they're not all full? Hey, we'll just tax the heck out of the people... wait, they're sitting empty? Ummm.
What are we going to do with these huge schools again? Increase taxes on the bagholders, if they can. Otherwise, look out below. Bad roads will get worse. The highly paid teachers in Fairfax will be looking at stagnating wages for years, I suspect.
Gonna get ugly there, because the commute is heck.
