What's everyone's favorite silver stock under $7?

Recs

7

November 01, 2011 – Comments (17)

I won't go into my reasons for limiting it to under $7. (OK, I will: I only have a little over $700 in investable assets, and I wanted to write calls on the stock when it goes up.)

Anybody know any standouts? Especially ones with options chains?

MCZ but you have to wait for 4th qtr results before you sell. Usually spikes up in FEB or MAR. I don't even know if you could write calls on this. I just buy and sell the spikes.

100ozRound - HL is under $7 and has options. We could do a screen if we were more energetic.

GPL is a good one, right? Is that one of Sinchy's faves?

MadCatz Interactive? How does that get defined as a silver stock?

I think you mean purchasing calls, not writing them, right?  I don't know anyone that will allow uncovered call writing with only $700.

That said you can purchase calls on any silver miner, regardless of share price.  For example, at the money calls on SSRI run around $100 per contract.  So, pick your favorite Silver company at any price and good luck to you.

GMX - I'm glad you're here (I hope you're still here, anyway), because I wanted to ask you. In light of your recent comment ("when in doubt, the market is not wrong" - #37 here) about it, does the even more recent price action of CMM mean it's a buy?

GPL is one of Sinch's favorites and one of mine too...

CMM is doing some sort of funky special dividend share reverse split thing. It is probably sort of shenangians but I honestly cannot figure it out from reading their press release. I'm still short all things Tim Hanson, if that's what you're asking.

I'd re-red thumb CMM after the recent levitation except that it is now CAPS unratable.

Well... It's not. I suppose I could spout out some B.S about MCZ being a penny stock and soon all those pennys will be turned into silver (does the nickel even contain silver anymore:)

But the reality is I did'nt see the word Silver in the title. Gotta remember to proofread before I hit post comment.

Ok Silver stock under $7 I'll go with GPL also. (With my faulty reading skills evidenced above, you might want to take that with a grain of salt ;)

So it's decided (actually I pulled the trigger yesterday): Sinchy and 100oz like GPL, and GMX hates it. Those are the 3 things I look for in a PM stock.

I only moderately dislike GPL at its present price. You should buy NG or SA if you really want to go opposite of me. :)

goldminingXpert - Ok, so you're not perfect as a contrary indicator, but your record in PM could use a lot of work. (:

Speaking of going against you, I'm seriously considering CMM. They're doing the ADS equivalent of a reverse split (not actually reverse splitting their Chinese shares) and paying a cash dividend with an ex div of December 9, 2011. The boost was in response to the cash part, and the ADS consolidation is relatively straightforward. I'm baffled by what you could have considered so baffling. If you think an ADS consolidation is a shenanigan, say that. Don't pretend it's something else to try to bolster your case.

"With the aim to continue its listing on the NYSE, China Mass Media have decided to change the ratio of its ordinary shares to ADSs from 30:1 to 300:1"

So the stock deserves to double on the announcement that they are engaging in a reverse split? We're presuming that the stock will start trading at ~$24 after the conversion occurs at the end of November? And don't companies usually trade down after reverse splits?

This looks like some sort of unusual reverse split (ADS consolidations are fairly unusual) to ward off the upcoming delisting from NYSE.
