Why ATVI remains the KING and EA is in deep trouble

August 05, 2009 – Comments (7) | RELATED TICKERS: ATVI , EA

Sorry :-(  Another ATVI blog post... This one's quick....

ATVI is king and EA is in deep trouble for 1 simple reason....

ATVI has nailed to the wall what Video Gamers want by knowing who video gamers are....

Video gamers are "High School" CLIQUEs.

You have the Comic Book + Magic The Gathering  CLIQUE
You have the R.O.T.C.  CLIQUE  (Join the Army Now  CLIQUE)
You have the "Indie Band"  /  "Garage band"  CLIQUE
You have the "Skateboarder" CLIQUE....
You have the "Movie Buff"  CLIQUE...      (Ya know...High School Kids that have to see Transformers Movie for the 12th time in a row?)

What you have with Electronic Arts and why there is mild enthusiasm over their Christmas Release is that Electronic Arts has far too many Startups...

They also destroyed their Baseball 2KSports franchise... I think they switched companys...dumped ESPN.....etc.  etc.. etc..  I stopped buying their baseball game when ESPN was abandoned.

EA has just made too many stupid mistakes running around in circles looking for the next best thing instead of putting their energies towards some kind of Coherrant Strategy!

Stop chasing your TAIL cause ATVI's got the ball and you ain't going to win unless you can take the ball away from them.

ATVI's strategy is simple...  HIGH SCHOOL....

EA could learn a lot by getting their G.E.D.

Here's the real way of looking at ATVI from a Bird's Eye View....

1.  Call of Duty  *duh*
2.  Wolfenstein
3.  Prototype
4.  Singularity

Movie Buffs
1.  Transformers
2.  Wolverine
3.  X-Men  Ultimate Alliance   "not based on a movie but X-Men movies have motivated sales of this franchise"
4.  Ice Age

Skateboard Clique
1.  Tony Hawk

Indie Band /  Garage Band  / Solo Artist  Clique
1.  Guitar Hero
2.  Band Hero
3.  DJ Hero

Comic Book  CLIQUE
1.  Spiderman
2.  X-Men Ultimate Alliance
3.  Wolverine  Origins
4.  Prototype

I mean THIS is a super simple in the world can this strategy NOT work???

You toss in "BLUR" for the NASCAR  / RACING  Clique and you have yet another Clique that ATVI is reaching out to.

Thanks again, Varchild.  I have a certain group of 20-something friends that know enough to analyse this for me.  If they agree, this will be the second time you have dropped a stock idea onto my watchlist.

I don't know if you checked my 'return the favor' idea of Garmin, but GRMN was up 24% today on a very nice earnings report.  I couldn't stand it.  Had to take at least some chips off of the table.

ATVI will be fine.  They always delay their games, everyone knows that.  I think the delay is getting a little extreme with SC2, but whatever, it's not like it is never going to come out (a la Duke Nukem Forever), and shorts can't pummel it too badly in the near future because they have more than enough cash to do buybacks when they feel like it.  The flipside to delays is that they usually produce a quality product that attracts legions of players.  There has been a dearth of quality, original games recently, so there is going to be a major pent up demand.

ATVI is a stock I own bigtime and for good reason.  They are going to blow up in a few years and become the next Microsoft of video gaming.

You heard it here first.  How high?  Skys the limit baby!!!

Garmin is a wonderful company... I don't care what anyone says GRMN's GPS devices are simply the best.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi for real cheap because it was discontinued.... the thing is normally a $1,000 piece of hardware I got last Christmas for about $200.

One word 'Sims'.  As long as that franchise is running (and not screwed up) EA will be ok.  Even a fairly poor game like Spore did pretty well since it had you know who's name on it.  Mind you they did manage to screw up Simcity which should have been impossible.

Also Madden mints money.
