Why California's a Mess, In one Sentence
From today's Wall Street Journal:
"California spent 11% of its budget on corrections versus 7.5% on higher education."
A friend in SanFran whose wife is a 3rd grade teacher tells me his wife's class size increased 22% on the same day San Quintin -- SanFran's max-security prison -- was given a grant to purchase new flat screen TVs for the inmates. I didn't really beleive it until I read this article, describing San Quintin's new hospital: "inmates can sit in padded chairs watching a large flat screen TV while they wait for treatment."
