Why you should follow or continue to follow #zzporte on twitter.

I will skip the "what is #zzporte?" part as it is rather obvious once you read a few of our posts and I have written a post on that.

This is on why following us on twitter is, still, such a great idea ;)

The main reasons are the following.

We have been good at this. And we can prove that ;)

We are competent/professional which should corroborate the notion that we have probably not just been lucky so far and are likely to continue to be good at this.

We are free :)

Following us is likely going to make you richer, smarter, better entertained and prettier :)

Another short version of why you should follow us is that in a few years someone will write an article on us (well, if we make it through the first few years) that will look a little like this one.

On the Road to Riches

The author of that future article (I already sent a draft to Matthew Herper a few months ago and I think I will get him to write that "#zzporte made it" article, I already got him to write this article ;)) might be able to use this part, mutatis mutandis, as the core :)

--------

Now on to the long version ;)

Or maybe not today. Maybe I should put some time into writing is, so I might post it in the comment section and you still have a chance to keep me from writing it :)

While you are waiting.

The little green trend line for the S&P 500 index in June 2009 and the trend channel a few months later, see this post, are still doing just fine :)

Preaching to the converted here. Note - just because I don't formally follow you guys on twitter, doesn't mean I don't actually and avidly follow your regular twitter postings and retweets.

Keep up the good work, thanks a lot for so opening and generously sharing your trades and investing perspectives, and Happy New Year.

Porte I wish you continued "success" but you need to do it with real money. The reason why I don't care about people's CAPs scores here is they are mainly just gaming the system with virtual picks.

Now here are real life picks for me:

That is real money on the line.

#4 The #zzporte portfolio is a sub-portfolio of the regular (i.e., among other things, real) equity portfolio of zzlangerhans. It is just as real as the small profit share remuneration I receive as co-manager and my own little portfolio that I don't mention too often. When I did, I usually said that it behaves "somewhat similar" to my old fund (the MOSTLY virtual fund ;)).

that old fund.

You guys should figure out a way to start a small fund - where we can transparently invest some money :)

#6 Hi,

we are just far too small yet. Once we reach AUM > $10M and leave all the real hedge funds in the dust with our performance we might reconsider. Until then it is, as TF put it, DIY for those following.

Happy New Year!

Porte,

Don't look for me to follow you on Twitter.  I invest in it but I don't have a Twitter account.  For that matter, I didn't have a Netflix account when I made money on Netflix either.  Nor did I own Apple products while I owned Apple stock.  What is the tag line on that commercial, "It isn't crazy if it works" or something like that...

On the other hand, if you ever do reach the capitalization point where you are willing to open a small fund for your fan base, I want to be part of it!  AC has my new email.  The old one was changed just after I ripped up my shoulder which means I lost not only my old files but also the emails of all but two of my friends.  It didn't matter so much in the post-surgery period, but now I am unhappy with Charter over the situation.  (Note, please, the ladylike terms substituted here for the decidedly UNladylike feelings and thoughts.  Also that it is all Charter's fault and not mine for the fact that I did not back up my files.)

OK, I think we have maybe 10 people by now that maybe would like to invest some money in zzporte should we ever become a real fund. I'm afraid that most of those will not be able to invest even if it does become one as they are too poor or live in the wrong country to invest in a U.S. hedge fund. I think it might be easiest to throw a party in Miami in 2020 and simply hand out gifts to those that wanted to invest but could not do so ;)

And a second party in Düsseldorf for the European fan base ;)

Just for the record, I have been requesting a Porte-run fund for a couple of years at least.  Also, I am caving on Twitter.  See http://caps.fool.com/Blogs/a-whole-new-arena-of-dumb/910149 And Please Please add a bit of help there if you can.  After all, you are half of the reason that I am doing this!

#10 I know. It is by now a long story. You, anchak and I were early adopters of the idea that maybe I should run a fund, at least work for one. I also told checklist34 to start a hedge fund a few times. In early 2011 he told me that he had started the paperwork and was ready to fund his own hedge fund. He asked me whether I wanted to move to the U.S. to work for his fund, a offer I declined due to illness. No idea whether he is now running that hedge fund as our email conversation has tapered off. After some "whining" that I should work at a hedge fund zzlangerhans sent me an email telling me that he had enough of that (the whining and the money to manage) and that I should just work for him. So now we co-manage part of his biopharma equity portfolio :)

Porte,

I didn't know you were ill.  Are you well now?  Shall I add you to those that I pray for?  I do not pray for someone unless they give me permission because I expect results and frequently get them (regrown heart valve, inoperable brain tumor disappears, etc)

All this time, I have thought that you were zzlangerhans.  Ooops =0

#12 No, the joint venture does not go that far ;)

I am better now, probably should be back to normal soon. It was not really a grave illness but rather one that made it look like a bad idea to switch continents and start a 100h/week job as hedge fund manager.

#14 No, see comment #9 above. Unless I misunderstand your question. If someone wants to give us $100M to "rescale" the #zzporte portfolio by a factor of 100, I think we might consider the offer :)

In the near term we will most likely just try to beat all "real" hedge funds. CAGR > 50% over a time period of a few years would be nice :)

So far it is quite simple. TFs delivered the starting capital (hard to say how much was needed, but the highest net cost so far was probably at around $0.8M), does the trades and owns the portfolio, while I am employee #1 of 1 and receive a tiered remuneration profit share (with high water mark provision) at the end of the quarter. At $0.2M in zzporte gains I advance to a 3.5% profit share. yeay :)

And will it also make me younger?  If so, put me back at 35 where people were still asking me if I was a model.  Or even 25, where people still asked what high school I went to.
