Will IPads hurt IPhones eventually?

April 04, 2012 – Comments (1) | RELATED TICKERS: AAPL , BB

Before I bought my first IPhone I was using your basic Mottorola phone.  I could make calls and receive calls.  However, in my line of work I waste a lot of time between jobs.  I can't tell you how many car batteries I burned out listening to the radio to "kill time."  I finally bought the Iphone and was in Nirvana.  I basically had the internet in the palm of my hand.  The downside was its small screen.  Enter the Ipad which now gives me the internet with a larger screen. It just doesn't make your basic telephone calls.  I am now debating if it doesn't make sense for me to go back to the basic much cheaper cellphone and complement it with the Ipad.  To own both seems duplicative.

Now if I am thinking that, I start to wonder if other's aren't thinking the same.  So in the end is Apple competing with itself now?  Right now Ipads can't really replace notepads for computing power, tho can for "lighter" duty I suppose.  But it does do all that the Iphone can and more (except make those phone calls).

I would say that they're just different products with different functionality. When I travel, I love having the iPad as it frees me from bringing a laptop (which I guess means iPads are kind of replacing the laptop for me.. almost.  You're right, they're not quite there, but they're getting closer).  The iPhone, if anything, replaced my iPod, which I no longer use.  Most of the apps that I use on the iPad are much easier to navigate there than on the phone. I don't see a lot of duplication there.  They seem to complement each other, if anything.  I was a pretty big skeptic of the iPad, but I have to admit that I really enjoy it.

So yes, I'm an Apple whore. But in my defense, all of my Apple stuff was gifted to me (I'm way too cheap to buy this stuff myself! Of course, then I felt it was only right to gift Apple stuff back to people, which turned out costing even more. Argh!)
