It was reported on Bloomberg TV last night that the S&P 500 index suffered its worst January performance in its 81 history since being initiated.

That is really shocking to know we just went thru the worst January Ever.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index fell to 825.88 , giving the measure an 8.6 percent decline in January. Its four-week losing streak is the longest since July. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 76.70 points to 8,000.86, driving its monthly loss to 8.8 percent.

This is an historic decline by the S&P 500 index, its biggest January decline since its inception 81 years ago.

IBD, what about those many forecasters predicting the largest ever gains for January in history - a little more humble pie, sirs?

Batten down the hatches if you believe "as January goes, so goes the rest of the year..."
