ZION: Covering shorts advisable

January 22, 2010 – Comments (5)

A charting technique I'm experimenting with says that it's almost certainly time to cover any shorts you may have in this stock in your real-life portfolio.

Turning around and going long this stock is probably premature at this point, but it does seem to be rallying enough to merit ending "Underperform" picks on it, as I did with my own this afternoon.

I am thinking about making advisories on short positions a frequent feature of this blog. Should I do this or not? I am very much open to suggestions on this topic.

I'd read your short advisories, but your mysterious 'charting technique' is a little.  . . . well, mysterious.

what criteria do you use?

It's something that, as far as I know, can only be used on, a website which allows one much greater freedom of choice on indicators and timeframes than any other site I'm familiar with.

Currently  I'm using a combination of what that site calls "stochastic RSI", on a 200 day timeframe, the 50 day "Fast Stochastics", and both the "Simple" and "Exponential" 200 day MAs. Plus more fundamental data from other websites I trust.

I reserve the right to use other criteria in the future because I'm still not as sure as I would like to be that my current ones are the best available, but will stick with these for the time being.

Please notice that I only said I was experimenting with this technique, not saying or implying that it was foolproof.

Yeah, i'm listening.

I like to look at a combination of moving averages all on the same chart. I also combine MA with Bolinger and PSAR. Always keep the MACD and volume in mind. Never forget to read the news.

Revenue growth. There's an important one.

Thanks for the link, SolarisKing. I didn't know that Yahoo's charts were that interactive. I think I'll stick with for now because I'm more familiar with that site, but I'm glad to know there about alternatives.
