ZLC, you piece of junk... (re: Chimpcontest)

December 23, 2010 – Comments (8) | RELATED TICKERS: ZLC.DL

ZLC, Zales Corp., was my pick for chimpcontest# 2, which started on 3/23/20010 (#3 is still going on).

I don't know how many of you know this, but my ZLC pick ended the contest third from the bottom of the 100 entries. The only two stocks that performed worse than my ZLC pick were now famous IKAN and CIIC.

That was very, very embarrassing, to say at least.

Now, please take a look at the ZLC's chart to see what happened to this stock since the chimpcontest# 2 ended on 9/13/2010 (ZLC's price at that time was $1.71):

What do you think? Not a bad run, right?

That's 145% gain from the chimpcontest# 2 closing price of $1.71 (today ZLC is at $4.19).

I'm too lazy to go through all the chimpcontest#2 picks, but I have a strong suspicion that no other stock from that portfolio of 100 stocks had such a great run since the contest ended.

Or, in other words, I wasn't really wrong about ZLC, its' just that chimpcontest ended at the time when I actually needed it to start. Floridabuilder had a very bad timing, that's all. I just thought you need to know that :)

Merry Christmas All.

And, of course, don't forget to have fun when investing. Good Luck.

ZLC, you piece of junk, you... I hate you...

Well, give ZLC some time to really catch fire and you'll see that even your #7 is not that safe from me :)

I used to think you were a 'momentum chartist', but am beginning to believe you are quite a bit better than that. Now what about that NLS call? think it's finally ready?

familyfund2, I think I'm indeed a momentum chartist as I still make my decisions based on short term charts (1 yr), but I've noticed that many times my picks actually underperform short-term, and out perform long-term (or in other words: my timing stinks).

I'm so glad you asked about NLS. Less than a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to blog about NLS.

I wanted to post NLS' chart and say, "If soon NLS gets over the $1.75 bump in the chart that was put in November, I think that might be a sign of NLS finally coming back."

As you can see, NLS got over that $1.75 very fast.

I'm thinking about putting real money (small amount) in NLS at this time, but I have to admit, I'm a little scared.

What intrigues me about NLS is that many of my picks that I made in April of 2010 (right before the market took a nose dive) have come back, but NLS has not.

Does that mean I was wrong about NLS or does it mean NLS is just a step behind and now is the time to put some real coin in NLS?

We'll see.

rexlove, with my current chimpcontest pick S - Sprint, being again very close to the bottom of the list of all entries, I think what happened with ZLC actually means one should invest in S as soon as the current contest ends. :)

LPH had a dramatric bang zoom moment that I was hoping would coincide with the closing moments of the contest shortly after it ended.  It may have given ZLC a run for the money for a few weeks.  In any case, RL LPH profits now looking for a new home.  What's on your radar screen for the new year, Dragon?
