This stock gets panned a lot, but it is one of the more promising advanced lithium battery companies that is publicly traded. A123 Systems is the undeniable leader in advanced batteries, but is not publicly traded. This and other competition puts a big question mark on Altair, however the company has an exlusive supply agreement with (and 16% ownership in) Phoenix Motorcars, which is making inroads on California fleet vehicles. One thing that makes the Altair "nanosafe" batteries stand out is a 10-minute recharge time - few battery companies have matched this (A123 being one of them).
This stock will either make a lot of money, or flop. Time will tell.
I still don't know which it is! I took profits while it was high and am only holding on to a few hundred shares just in case. I'm considering buying at least a few hundred more shares at this lower price, based on the explosive oil price and a real demand for electric cars now. But I do have trouble believing in this company, and there will be some serious competition soon.
