Applided Materials has purchased Applied Films to break new ground in equipment for manufacturing thin-film solar cells. They are predicting that with their technology, the cost of solar cells can be reduced to $1.00/sqr ft from the current $3-5.00/sqr ft. This will lead to new products for sale in places like Lowes and Home Depot.
