AMAT still generates a ton of cash. Their entry into the thin film solar industry is good for the company and may even be good for the planet (an inconvenient capitalist truth).

Chips aren't going anywhere, even if it is cyclical. Flat panels aren't going anywhere. Solar is taking off. Applied materials makes the manufacturing equipment for all of them.
