The current dual-core chips in the market are still underutilized by current software, most programs don't even feature multicore code. Quad-core chips are way too ahead of their time. AMD is doing the smart thing to wait until there is market.

Way to go Trusader! Finally someone with a grasp on reality! AMD's management is MUCH smarter than Intel's (in my opinion). They have learned from Intel that marketing false promises is a very risky way of doing business. AMD is being silent for a reason----don't forget about the AMD/ATI/RAMBUS venture. Some info has already leaked about that. AMD's silence is GOOD news. Future announcements with the proper "timing" for Wall Street will prove to be Intel cripplers for sure. I look for AMD's stock to reach $42.00 / share again withing the next 6-12 months.

AMD is silent because they can't get theirs to work. They're trying to put out competitive products and shrinks, but they are failing miserably. Check the benchmarks. Intel is smoking them in everything, and most of those are not optimized to use multi-core. Those that are for multi-core you get Intel absolutely crushing AMD.

Spin can be a dangerous thing, especially when you convince yourself of it and put your own money down. AMD has been my best CAPS call, and I called underperform. I don't know that they will go much lower at this point, but until they can answer Intel's latest they will go nowhere. And, for the record, I don't own the stock of either company right now so I have no vested interest in any of these comments.

Well, from what I read on this Intel - AMD core fight, the AMD is a better design only because it is not the Intel solution which is to simply place two processors side-by-side on one piece of silicon; it is believed that Intel chose to do this because they were late in arriving at multi-core implementations. I would bank on AMD producing a better preforming multi-core: does anyone remember the pentium I motherboard problems when Intel was simply adding an additional pipeline to the 486? Multi-cores really need to be designed from the ground up to get the best handling of processes and threads - otherwise you might as well just keep increasing processor speeds which is what Intel have been doing for years.
